FUTURES IN JAZZ
AT THE NCEM
The NCEM works in partnership with York Music Forum Youth Jazz Ensemble to offer aspiring jazz players the opportunity to work with some of the extraordinarily talented jazz musicians who come to our venue.
Directed by Ian Chalk with workshops at the NCEM funded by Ronnie Scott's Charitable Foundation and Mayfield Valley Arts Trust, the NCEM’s career building programme is supported by some of the finest jazz musicians in the world – including to date: Byron Wallen, Trish Clowes, Zoe Rahman, Andrew McCormack, Alex Wilson Quartet, Andy Sheppard and Claire Martin.
“As the Director of York Music Forum, I am immensely proud of our partnership with the National Centre for Early Music (NCEM). This collaboration has been instrumental in enriching our musical community, providing our students with unparalleled opportunities to work with some of the greatest jazz musicians in the land.
It's so much easier for young musicians to become excellent when they see excellence up close. The NCEM’s commitment to excellence and innovation aligns perfectly with our mission to nurture and inspire young musicians.
Together, we have created a vibrant platform for musical education and performance, fostering a deeper appreciation for the arts in York and beyond. Our partnership with NCEM is not just a collaboration; it is a shared journey towards musical excellence and cultural enrichment.” - Ian Chalk
