Handel: Brockes Passion
After languishing in margins of musical history, Handel’s only passion setting (first performed in Hamburg in 1719) is characterised by an extraordinary combination of humanity and beauty. Handel plunges into the narrative of the Passion story with consummate dramatic skill using a vivid mixture of chorales, choruses and emotive recitatives in what is some of his finest music. Yorkshire Bach Choir combines with the period colour of Yorkshire Baroque Soloists and an outstanding line-up of soloists in the first performance of this major work in the North of England – an opportunity for performers and audience alike to experience this highly dramatic setting of the Passion story.
