Hejira is a seven-piece band dedicated to celebrating and honoring the iconic works of Joni Mitchell, particularly from her late 1970s era. This period saw the release of albums like The Hissing of Summer Lawns, Hejira, Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter, and Mingus, often referred to as her “jazz period.” Joni briefly toured with a group of top-tier jazz musicians, including Metheny, Mays, Brecker, Pastorius, and Alias, a collaboration that resulted in the remarkable live album Shadows and Light. Hejira draws much of its repertoire from this album.
The band, composed of seasoned jazz musicians, is fronted by the talented Hattie Whitehead, whose vocals embody the grace, power, and beauty of Joni’s style, while also capturing her unique guitar techniques. Audiences can expect an evening filled with Mitchell’s classic songs, including favorites like Amelia, Woodstock, A Case of You, Song for Sharon, and Edith and the Kingpin.
‘Whitehead is one of the greatest singers I have ever heard” Jazzwise, March 2024
“Anyone who loves Joni will find these performances entrancing” Lynne Truss (best-selling author and broadcaster)
