YORK CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL – EVENT 1

Friday 11 September 1:00 – 2:00pm
Unitarian Chapel, St Saviourgate
Tickets £15 (Under 18s and Students free)

Cello recital

Tim Lowe (cello)
Katya Apekisheva (piano)

We welcome back Tim and Katya to open the 2026 festival with three pieces that are core to the cello repertoire; all of them tuneful and none more so than Chopin’s most important chamber music work. Charm and elegance are the watchwords for Mendelssohn’s music – age 17 already possessing an inner vision and melodic invention that show him to be a real poet. Martinů’s Variations are a light-hearted, virtuoso showpiece.

Mendelssohn Variations concertantes for cello and piano, Op. 17

Chopin Sonata for Cello and Piano in G minor, Op.65

Martinů ‘Variations on a Theme by Rossini’ for Cello and Piano

Make sure not to miss the Festival Saver offer – £75 for the all events pass, a saving of £15
