Hear the splendour and musical inventiveness of 18th-century Salzburg’s Church and State in intimate sacred music by its two great masters. Haydn’s Missa Brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo (Hob.XXII:7) is notable for its prominent organ part, providing a contrast with Mozart’s graceful early Missa brevis in B-flat major (KV275) and festive Te Deum (KV141). All three showcase masterful choral writing. Mozart’s instrumental Church Sonata in F (KV244) and the expressive psalm and Magnificat settings of Vesperae solennes de Confessore (KV339), with its beautiful ‘Laudate Dominum’, are also in the programme.
