A Tudor workshop for singers with Philip Cave, Beverley, Sunday 25 May 2014
10.00am - 4.30pm
Hexagon Centre, Coltman Avenue, Beverley HU17 9LP
'A peaceful night and a perfect end' - music for Compline
Singers were invited to explore the glorious repertory of the Tudor Church with Philip Cave, director of the vocal ensemble Magnificat.
The music studied - which included Byrd's Lamentations and music for Compline by Tallis, White and Sheppard - was featured in a concert 'The Tudors at Prayer' given by Magnificat in Beverley Minster the evening before the workshop, as part of the Beverley and East Riding Festival. The day concluded with an informal performance at 4.00pm which was open to all.
"I really enjoyed the day. Philip was brilliant, clear, consistently positive, and made us feel we could achieve even some very difficult music - which was wonderful of him, considering the amazing singers whom he usually conducts."
"Super place too, good size and good facilities and parking on site which is fantastic in Beverley. Organisation great, warm welcome, music sorted and ready, coffee available - perfect!"
"We look forward to when we can get to the next NCEM singing day."
