Mr Paston’s Pastymes
Edward Paston’s collection is one of the largest and most extraordinary set of musical part-books assembled by anyone from Elizabethan and early Jacobean times. A noble gentleman from Norfolk with close ties to the Monarchy, Mr Paston was a poet, an orator, and a translator, but perhaps most interestingly for our purposes, Paston was a lute player. His intabulations include compositions of Taverner, Lassus, Victoria, da Monte, Gombert, Victoria, Josquin, Palestrina, and a substantial collection of William Byrd. This collection, as impressive as it is surprising, makes a veritable “playlist” of music spanning the Renaissance–all ready to be played at home with friends
“Ariel Abramovich est ici merveilleux de musicalité, d’instinct, de sonorité…” Classica, France
“Anne-Kathryn Olsen seduced all the spectators: this American soprano is able to transport us directly to heaven in the blink of an eye.” Olyrix
