An illustrated talk by Jonathan Wainwright introducing the life and music of William Byrd. His life and music will be examined, in particular his secret life as a Roman Catholic living and working in a Protestant land. The talk will throw light on the various concerts in the Festival featuring Byrd’s music, and reveal him as a complex character whose music transcended the religious and political events of his time and still resonates with us today.
