York Early Music Festival10th - 18th July 2009Lifelines: an exploration of the universal themes of life and deathThe UK’s largest festival of early music takes its inspiration in 2009 from the centenary celebrations of Purcell, Handel and Haydn – creating a programme which looks at lifelines – from the medieval to the baroque. Guest artists include some of the world’s finest early music specialists – The Tallis Scholars [York Minster Fri 10]; Ensemble Peregrina [Sat 11]; The Clerks’ Group [NCEM Sun 12]; Stile Antico [Chapter House Mon 13]; Alla Francesca [Chapter House Wed 15]; I Fagiolini in a new programmed entitled ‘Tallis in Wonderland’ [University of York Thurs 16]; The Sixteen directed by Harry Christophers [York Minster Fri 17] and Academy of Ancient Music directed by Pavlo Beznosiuk [Sat 18].LOOK OUT FOR … the winners of the NCEM Composers Award; the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition and Bach’s St John Passion with soloists including Matthew Brook and Robin Blaze presented by the Yorkshire Bach Choir.More details about this year's festival are now available on the what's on page.
