Beverley Festival Schools Chorus

Beverley Festival Schools Chamber Choir 2011

The Beverley Early Music Festival Schools Chamber Choir brought together pupils from Woldgate College, Pocklington School and Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham in association with students from the University of York and young professional artists.  The project aimed to challenge the young singers musically and to give them the opportunity to experience music new to them.

Some of the pupils learned the pieces in workshop sessions in school with Directors, Sam Dunkley and Andrew Passmore, others rehearsed at home.  All the participants finally came together for the first time on Saturday 28 May 2011 at Toll Gavel Methodist Church to perform an exciting programme of music by Purcell, Handel and Mozart as part of the Beverley and East Riding Early Music Festival.

The soloists were Bethany Seymour, soprano, Rachel Wyllie, alto, Nils Greenhow, tenor and Jamie Wright, bass.  The choir of senior school pupils was augmented by a semi-chorus of students from the University of York.  They were accompanied by string players Rebecca Howell, Kathryn Berry, Imogen Clarke and Miriam Nohl -  all from Queen Elizabeth High School, Hexham - Chris Parsons, trumpet and Andrew Passmore, organ.

The concert was directed by Sam Dunkley and Andrew Passmore.
