Young Minstrels - new recorder group
Young Minstrels is a new recorder ensemble for players aged 8-11 years who are interested in studying early music - the music of the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque - and learning about how it might have sounded when it was first performed.
Pupils will receive specialist tuition to help them improve their technique, and will have the opportunity to learn treble, tenor and bass recorders. The experience offers a range of musical challenges different from those typically encountered in school recorder groups and will prepare pupils to join Minster Minstrels as they progress.
Pupils will ideally have a standard of Grade 1 or above but less experienced players who are committed and enthusastic will also be accommodated.
Young Minstrels meets from 9.30-10.45 on Saturday mornings in term time at Canon Lee School, as part of York Arts Academy which is run by City of York Council. The ensemble is directed by Heather Moger, who also directs Minster Minstrels.
